TILTFORGE

Will It Fit

A dispatch from the workbench, September 2026. This is the compatibility post, so it is mostly numbers.

The question I get more than any other is "will it fit my blinds." The honest answer has three parts, and one of them is "not yet."

The headrail

The founders batch fits high-profile 2 × 2.25 in headrails only. That is the rail on ordinary 2-inch horizontal blinds, faux wood or aluminum, with an internal tilt rod. The whole unit lives inside that rail; nothing is visible on the window.

Headrail profile with calipers What to measure: rail height and depth, at the end where the tilter lives.

The reason is one number. A high-profile rail is 2 in tall, about 51 mm. A low-profile rail is 1.5 in, about 38 mm, at the same 2.25 in depth. The assembly is about 50 mm tall. It goes in the first and it does not go in the second, and that second one is not a close call: 12 mm short is not the kind of gap a millimetre of measuring error decides either way. That is the whole question the fit checker is answering — whether your rail is the low one — and it is why a rough estimate off a photo is good enough to act on.

Low-profile headrails are planned and are not in the founders batch; a shorter shell means a different drivetrain layout, and I am not going to ship one I have not installed. [VERIFY: target date for low-profile, if any.]

The tilt rod

The TiltRod clamps around your existing tilt rod and drives it through a worm wheel. The bore in the spool and the worm-wheel hub is a 6.429 mm across-flats hex.

Tilt rod cross-sections Different rods profiles side by side.

  • 6 mm hex rod: fits, with 0.43 mm of clearance. Slightly loose, serviceable.
  • 1/4 in (6.35 mm) hex rod: marginal. 0.079 mm of clearance in PETG is a press fit or a no-go. If your rod measures 1/4 in, tell me; opening the bore to 6.55 to 6.65 mm is a one-number change and a reprint of two parts.
  • ~7 mm square rod: covered by the printed adapter.
  • 1/4 in square, 5/32 in square, 9/32 in arched rectangle: not in the founders set. They are standalone printed adapters that touch nothing else in the assembly, so they become an accessory pack once I have real rod data from customers instead of guesses.

Measure the rod, not the hole it goes through. A caliper across the flats is enough.

Cord or wand

Cord-tilt blinds: a spool snaps onto the end of the drive axle and your cord runs over it. Pull the cord and the blind tilts through the same worm the motor uses. The motor never fights you; the clutch gives way.

Wand-tilt blinds: same machine, installed clocked about 30 degrees around the rod so the axle points down toward where the wand hangs. An eye screw threads into the end of the drive axle and your existing wand hooks into it. No printed adapter, no parts to lose. The Eye Screw is how that got simpler.

Both parts are in the drive set either way, so the kit does not fork by blind type — you fit the one your blinds need. And either way the encoder reads the rod, so a manual move shows up in the app as if it happened in the app.

Before you reserve

The headrail part is the one people get wrong, so that is the part the fit checker does. Pick cord or wand (or "not sure"), pull the blind a little off the wall, and photograph the open end of the headrail with a US quarter or a tape measure held flat against it. Up to four angles of the same rail if you like — they are read together and produce one answer. It estimates the rail height from the reference and gives one of three: it fits, it is a low-profile rail and not yet, or it could not tell and here is how to reshoot. It is an estimate; measure to confirm. The photos are not kept.

The rod it cannot see. That one is your caliper, per the table above.

Reserving costs nothing and holds the founders price, so if the answer is "not yet," leave your email on that page and I will tell you when it changes.
